Beach Ready Body Update

I’d like to lie and say I’ve been exercising and eating great while preparing for Mexico but that’s not true. I haven’t been exercising at all or even eating great. I’ve been busy moving and it’s been deathly hot outside so exercise has been moved to the back burner.

I went and bought a bikini for the beach today and I really wish I had stuck to my goals. But it’s too late now so I will exercise when I get back and focus more on overall fitness and eating healthier rather than looking good in a bikini.

Beach Ready Body- First Week Recap

My first week of my attempt to get in shape for the beach went ok. I almost met my original goal of running 5k 4 times a week without stopping. What I actually did was

  • Sunday- Ran 5k in 35 minutes before church in the morning. It was so nice to run without the jogging stroller and I only stopped for a minute
  • Tuesday- Ran 5k again in 32 minutes
  • Wednesday - Took the girls for a 2km walk to get some fruit from a local fruit stand. I felt very eco-friendly
  • Thursday- Walked and ran 5k with the jogging stroller. It’s so much more of a work out even though I run a lot less.
  • I really should have run on Saturday but just did not feel like it.

I wanted to do my Abs video 5 times a week but ended up doing it a grand total of 0 times. The segements are only 5 minutes long so I really don’t have any excuse for not doing them. But my attempted excuse is that I can’t do it while the kids are up since they climb all over me. When they are napping or down to sleep I have so many other things I need to do so I put working out at the bottom of the priority list.

I did eat a fruit or vegetable with about 80% of my meals but also snacked on chocolate and cookies. I sent my husband shopping and being the sweetheart that he is, he brought home a tub of cookie dough. I have very little self-control when it comes to chocolate.

I’m suffering a serious lack of motivation this week so I need to get my butt in gear if I’m going to accomplish any goals in my 2nd week. I think I’m going to put on my bikini soon for some extra motivation

My Goals

One of the first posts I wrote back in April listed my post-school goals. Sadly all the goals are still in progress. I’ve been encouraged by Michelle at Flying Giggles and Lollipops to make my goals more specific and trackable. So here’s are my fitness goals for the next month.

  • Cardio 4 times a week
  • Ab Video 5 days a week
  • Run 5km (3.1 miles) without stopping
  • Eat a fruit or vegetable with every meal

I’m more focused on the fitness goals right now and will work on my eating habits later. I’ll revisit this list at the end of every week to see how I’m doing.

Background on Beach Ready Body

If you’ve seen any of the pictures posted of me on my blog you’ll see that I’m not fat or even overweight. Thanks to awesome genetics and a fast metabolism I’ve never had a problem staying slim. I’ve been eating for two for the last 3 consecutive years and breastfeeding has allowed me to eat a lot of extra calories without gaining weight.

But now Sweet Pea has started breastfeeding less and I can no longer eat whatever I want. I haven’t been exercising either so I’m noticing a little extra weight on my thighs and waist. Although I’m still slim I’m not physically fit or toned. I can look ok in clothes but soon I’ll be on a Mexican beach with nothing but a bikini on. I’m hoping to use that as motivation to start eating better and exercising more. Ultimately, I need to start eating better and exercising for my health but hopefully my upcoming beach trip jump start my journey to a fit body for life.
